The Farmobile engineering team is hosting its first-ever hackathon. For those who don’t know, a “hackathon” is a sprint-like event where programmers, engineers, designers, software developers and subject matter experts intensively collaborate on new ideas which could evolve into the “next big innovation.”

According to Kris Antonetti, vice president of engineering operations, Farmobile teams are exploring new business ideas. The goal of hackathon “freedom sessions” is to uncover unmet business needs and/or discover breakthroughs on existing challenges, opportunities or issues.

Hackathons are not just for engineering and coding types. Antonetti says Farmobile’s hackathon provide opportunities for everyone across the company to inject new perspectives into product and engineering team ideas.

“A hackathon is a great way for us to take a step back from the business of developing agriculture solutions and come up with additional creative ways of solving problems we haven’t yet thought through in our day–to–day work,” says Antonetti. “Farmobile teams are working hard to improve our customers’ experience and create meaningful innovation.”

The hackathon event also brings people together. It allows Farmobile staff to work with different teams and groups which typically don’t collaborate during the daily work week.
