Ag retailers poised to play a vital role in the data game… with the help of interoperable data

For Ag Retailers, Data’s Massive Opportunities Are Yours to Win or Lose.
There’s always been one certain thing – agriculture carries the element of the unknown.
Beyond the constant unpredictability of Mother Nature and crops, the marketplace continues to vary with trade issues, input price hikes, as well as labor and supply chain shortages
However, looking into the future, data and the digital acres is a bright opportunity for growers and ag retailers. The increasing awareness for the potential value of ag data is unlike any revenue stream seen before. Revenue from data does not end at harvest time. As we move into the future of emerging markets, the value of data could be unlimited. It truly is time for agriculture to tackle the issue of data interoperability.
In a recent conversation with Skyward Apps CEO Kat Crawford, Bradford Warner, Farmobile vice president of business development, define it this way: “Interoperable data is that which can be shared and exported in nonproprietary formats. Because it’s not specific to any type of vehicle or any one party, it can fulfill multiple uses across multiple partners. The benefit of interoperability has huge financial implications for retailers and growers.”
Crawford agreed. She explained it as seeing detail in a new way.
“Interoperable data adds dimension to a field and grower for anyone with the foresight to realize what’s possible when data from different systems used for different purposes can be layered on top of each other,” said Crawford. “Suddenly you can see the world in three dimensions whereas it has been flat before.”
Who stands to benefit from the new world of data?
